COMMERCIAL BUILDING COLLAPSE IN KAMPALA LEAVES ONE PERSON DEAD AND SEVERAL INJURED

On 16th April, 2023, at approximately 5 pm, a commercial building housing Loi-Lung Restaurant collapsed in Kansanga, near Kampala International University, opposite Palm village shopping Mall along Kansanga Ggaba Road, Makindye division in the Kampala district. The victims were reportedly inside the building, watching football when the incident occurred.

Upon receiving this information the Police at Kabalagala , together with the fire prevention and rescue services , KCCA, and a team of detectives, immediately visited the scene. The area was cordoned off, and further examinations took place. Crime scene photographs were taken, and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the building had an extension of a storey structure with two floors. All the victims were South Sudanese, and the restaurant was also for South Sudanese.

Four victims with minor injuries were rescued by the community members and rushed to Mukwaya Hospital. Unfortunately, one person, Ayuer Mario, who was seriously injured and rescued by the Fire Prevention and rescue services , was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago Hospital.

Deputy police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire said,an investigation is still ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course.

Finally, we would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Ayuer Mario and wish the injured.
