As registration for the 2023 candidates takes centre stage, UNEB has warned head teachers and directors of the various schools to avoid charging parents fees beyond that gazetted by the board.
The director incharge of examinations at UNEB Nangosya Mike Masikye while addressing journalists at Uganda Media centre in Kampala said that schools charge illegal fees disguising as UNEB fees. He said that UNEB we prosecutor such errant heads of schools and directors for ruining its name.
” The law allows UNEB to prosecute such law violators in courts of law and once convicted one is liable of paying a fine of UGX 40 millions or imprisonment of a maximum of ten years.” Nangosya said.
He gave advised to parents and guardians of learners to report to police such characters of exploitation by the head teachers of schools and directors.
Nangosya also cautioned Heads of Centres or their representatives to ensure that all the UNEB registration fees are remitted to the Board and to ensure that the learners are fully registered for the examination.
The Heads of government-aided schools were also warned to desist the temptation of registering privately sponsored candidates as government-sponsored candidates because this is a fraudulent act which causes financial loss to the government.
UNEB says any head of an examination centre or school director that will be found indulging in such acts shall be charged double the amount that has been defrauded and the examination centre number of the school shall be withdrawn.
The Registration fees for PLE is maintained at UGX 34,000, UCE at 164 11,000 while for UACE is still at 186,000 for normal registrations.
However the late registration will carry a sur-charge of 100% for PLE and 50% for UCE and UACE respectively between June 1-31 and between July 1-31 late registration at all learning levels will carry a sur-charge of 100%.
Meanwhile UNEB urged parents, candidates and other stakeholders to remain calm as it’s working on an amicable arrangement with KCCA to ensure that the result slips of the learners are re-printed .
A total of 51 schools in Kampala are said to be missing their 2019 PLE candidates’ result slips which got lost having been picked by the un named KCCA officer from UNEB. The affected learners who are supposed to be registering for ÙCE are totaling to 3,972.
Nangosya said that the lost result slips numbers will be freezes by UNEB to avoid fraudsters from using them .
