People displaced in camps or shelters fleeing landslides in Buduuda areas have appealed to the government to increase assistance such as food, water supply and others to enable them to enjoy their new home.
They made the plea during a visit by UPDF through its UPDF engineers brigade to the east of the country to see the progress of some of its projects
The government of Uganda started the resettlement of landslide affected people in Buduuda, Sironko, Manafwa, Namisindwa and Bulambuli areas in 2019 and 300 families with about 5000 people have benefited from the scheme one plot of land plus another 2 acres for cultivation.
The resettlement started with 10 families consisting of 60 people and they were brought to Bunambutye area in Bulambuli district in the first phase which was led by the office of the prime minister of Uganda and they are currently in the fourth phase.
The government promised to provide them with services such as schools, hospitals and many other things which have been done although the refugees say they have not been helped enough because they still face challenges since they were brought here , poor quality schools etc. as directed
Apart from these challenges, the Duda also pointed out the problem of the Karamoja who keep them awake by attacking them and taking away their cattle and violating their rights

Rdc also confirmed that they have a problem of karamoja who disturb the rights of his residents so he asked updf to increase security in bulambuli district
District Human Resources Officer Abeato Stella praised the work of the Ugandan government and the updf engineers brigade but urged the construction of more houses to further evacuate people from the landslide affected areas as there are still many and we are in the rainy season
Eng maj.kizito mulwana who was entrusted with the construction of phase 4 call him site engineer told us that 42 houses were built with each house costing 50m and they were built in 4 months although they were given 6mnths.
