KACITA DENOUNCES DEMONSTRATION, ASSURES MEMBERS OF PROTECTION

Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) has denounced a planned demonstration which had been organized by some opposition leaders and some leaders of other business communities in Kampala

The acting chairman of KACITA Dr. Musoke Tadeous Nagenda while addressing journalist at Naguru Police Headquarters, urged members of the business community to ignore calls for demonstrations and go on with their normal operations.

This follows reports of planned demonstrations by political activists in protest of escalating commodity prices and other economic challenges in Uganda.

Musoke said that the association has already met with the President and a committee with representatives of KACITA has been instituted to address the issue of the escalating commodity prices. He said on behalf of traders KACITA gave recommendations and among other is the rejuvenation of railway transport system which proves to be less costly in the transportation of commodities,

“After analyzing with our team, we thought that the planned demonstration was very bad timing because the issues which are being raised about the escalating commodity prices and the general economic situation in the country was being handled positive results have started to yield.’’ Musoke said

He adds:“Government and the Ministry of Finance established a committee where I’m representing the business community where we decided to engage and make several benchmarking measures.

He also said that the prevailing economic challenges are a global phenomenon and the business community and other Ugandans should be patient with the situation that with time things will normalize.
