MINISTER MAO SAY: I DON’T SUPPORT MUHOOZI PROJECT

The Democratic Party President who also doubles as the minister for Constitution Affairs Norbert Mao said that he doesn’t support the Gen.  Muhoozi Kainerugaba  a.k.a Muhoozi project because he is also eyeing the biggest office in the country come 2026 general elections.

He said that those who are championing the MK project and Muzeeyi ‘tova ku ballot’ project have are free to exercise their rights but he is a strong advocate for a peaceful transition that will usher in a new government without causing blood shed like in the past incidences

Mao while addressing journalist in a weekly press conference at the City House party office in Kampala on May 16, 2023 said that Uganda’s problem is beyond elections that there are things that needs to be tackled for instance violence especially during elections and rigging were the later  has led to loss of lives of many people in the country.

Mao escorted Gen. Muhoozi to Rwanda and the duo attended the function together where President Paul Kagame was celebrating his birth day. When asked about whether he is under the MK project he denied and reiterated his ambition to contest for the highest office in the next general election.

“I am also eyeing the highest office in the country. It baffles me when you tag me as a supporter of the so called Muhoozi project.’’ Mao said.

He adds: “ I only escorted him to Rwanda because he asked me and you see a love parties and I enjoyed the party. I also got an opportunity to talk to president Kagame about his experience in leading such a country after the political turmoil.’’

Mao also revealed that his party is championing a revised National Dialogue that will not only center around political issues but it will also tackle other pertinent issues  like structuring the economy, status of the family, employment among others.

He said his party is very committed to organizing a national dialogue there after a national conference that will help tackle real challenges that are affecting the country rather than treating symptoms.

He attacked National Unity Platform leaders whom he said that they reason like ‘Malwa’ group people because they this they can change the government through going to streets and undressing as well as being violent. He also told reporters that the corporation agreement with president Museveni is for this term only,

“ The Democratic Party is a very strong advocate of the nonviolent constructive engagement with those in power which will oversee a peaceful transition. This can be achieved through constitution reforms, like choosing the independent electoral commission.’’ Mao stressed.

He said DP proposes that government should set up a National Salary and Remuneration Commission that will help tackle the remuneration challenges once and for all, but he is against the minimum wage legislation because he believes this will not help employees.

He also said that there is a need to reduce on the waste by government on through procuring of things were resources get tied up although he didn’t elaborate.
