Vipers SC beat Busoga FC 5-0 to win back to back StarTimes Uganda premier league on just inferior goal difference having gone level on points with rival KCCA FC who also won their last fixture at home with same goal margin while SC Villa failed to break the jinx since 2004 lost 1-0 to URA at home.
The league title having gone to wire and had to be decided on the final day were each of the first three clubs on the table had a chance to be crowned champion. However, URA defeated SC Villa 1-0 at Wankulukuku courtesy of Najib Fesali’s goal to spoil the most decollated club in Uganda’s football league history.
Villa was leading the table with two points clear at 52 point while Vipers and KCCA at 50 each entering the last fixture of the league but the Jogoo squandered their chances of winning the marathon when they failed to beat the tax collectors at Wankulukuku Stadium.
The Fans of Villa have themselves to blame when they acted violently in November 2022 after their club lost to Wakiso Giants 2-1 at Wankuluku Stadium something that compelled FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel to chop two points and two goals from the already accumulated.
At St. Mary’s Kitende,Abdul Lawal bagged a brace while Yunus Sentamu, Bright Anukani and Martin Kizza scored a goal each. The win took Vipers to 53 points level with KCCA FC who also won 5-0 against Bright Stars. The Venoms had a superior goal difference of 27 compared to KCCA’s 19 and still have a chance of clinching a double next weekend when they play Police FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final in Lira.
