South Korea has congratulated Uganda for winning the bid to host the 2027 AFCON and pledged to strengthen the cordial relationship and corporation between her and Uganda in areas of trade and industrial relationship.
The ambassador H.E Park Sung-Soo officiating at the Korea National Day cerebrations at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on October 3, 2023 said that his country will help Uganda develop the necessary infrastructures that are required to host the AFCON tournament.
He said that the Korean Embassy is actively promoting development projects in Uganda in the field of education and other social economic areas and this has helped to strengthen the ties between the two nations and he said that his country will continue to support Uganda for long-term social- economic aspect and trade.
“ Uganda is our key partner in the East African region and our ties has helped to enhance development among us and this has fostered improvement of livelihood of our people.’’ H.E Park Sung-Soo said.
“ The past is important, the present is also important but the future is very important for the corporation between the two nations especially trade and industrial relations.’’ The ambassador stressed.
The deputy speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon.Thomas Tayebwa who was the chief guest at the cerebrations said that the development corporation between the two countries is strategic because it help to enhance sustainability in production.
He also said that Korea through its organization called KOICA, for the past years has extended financial support to Uganda which has been invested in the various sectors which has helped to improve the lives of Ugandans.
“ The partnership between Uganda and Korea is helping to enhance human capital development as well as the social economic aspect.’’ Rt. Hon. Tayebwa stressed.
The deputy speaker also said that Korea invested in US $ 864M in the fruit processing factory in Lira and she has also NAARO and Elgon farmers and US$ 6m grant has been extended to Makerere University College of Veterinary Medicine to support research and this will help improve animal rearing in the country.
The function was attended by various government dignitaries, the notable one were the minister of state for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryema, minister of Science and Technology Dr.Monica Musenero and the state minister for ICT and National Guidance Joyce Ssebugwawo.
