POLICE ARREST MAN FOR MURDERING HIS WIFE AND BIOLOGICAL BROTHER, BODIES EXHUMED

Police in Rwenzori East region, Bwera in Kasese District have arrested and detained a 45 years old man for murdering his wife and biological brother nine months ago.

 The arrest followed the relatives of the deceased, Mary Biira, 40, the wife to the culprit, Jackson Muhindo to mount pressure on him asking him to tell them where their beloved one had gone.

According to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, Muhindo had earlier told the deceased’s relatives that his wife disappeared mysteriously that he also didn’t know where she went.

This prompted them to report to police and opened a case file against Muhindo and was arrested and detained. While addressing reporters at Naguru based Police Headquarters on Monday 16, October, Enanga said that upon interrogating Muhindo, he confessed murdering both people and led them to where he had buried them.

Muhindo after killed Biira at Mukunyu Trading centre in January 2023 and buried her in the same place and in July the same year he also killed his brother, Molise Kabutusi whom he buried in Kyebitere village, Kanyisi Town Council, Kasese District.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the remains of deceased people were exhumed and taken to hospital for the DNA testing to confirm while investigations where still on going to complete the file after which Muhindo will be committed to court to answer charges of murdering two people.

He also said that prior to the painful incident, the couple according to the area residents, had unstable marriage and was ever entangled in domestic violence but the neighbors also feared to alert police because Muhindo was practicing witchcraft and they feared being bewitched.

Meanwhile police is also has in custody Juliet Chelangat who is alleged for killing her husband, Steven Namawangala, 40 after a quarrel at the couple’s home.

According to Enanga, Namawangala stole Chelangat’s cash savings which she had saved to pay school fees for their children but the deceased failed to refund it.  Chelangat had received shs.200, 000 from Kabat village savings group with an aim of paying for school fees the husband removed the money and used it without her consent.

“The husband confessed to her wife that he had stolen the money and spent it in two days but that he was planning to refund but the wife waited for the fund in vain which prompted her to wrestle him and in the scoff  she overpower him hit him on the head causing his death.’’ Enanga said.

Enanga also said Chelangat is currently in police custody after being charged with murder and will be committed to court when her file is ready.
