DP’s acting spokesperson Ismail Kirya right addressing Journalists at the Party Headquarters in Kampala
The opposition Democratic Party (DP) urges State House to carry out its own forensic investigations so as to find out the true validity of the matter in which 3 people were killed in Queen Elizabeth National Park other than depending on the reports from UPDF finding which may be misleading.
On October 17, 2023 assailants made an attack on British and South African nationals and a Ugandan tour guide killing them instantly and also set their vehicle ablaze.
While addressing the reporters in the party’s weekly press briefing, the acting party spokesperson who also doubles as UYD president Ismail Kirya said that the assailants may not be terrorists as alleged but may be some of the UPDF criminals because they took time after killing the couple tourists and their driver they had ample time to destroy the evidence by burning the vehicle they were travelling in.
“ There is something we need to understand more because security had a lot of capacity to detect and avert such incident from happening. When you look at the way it happened it seems there was some scoff before killing and burning of the vehicle happened.’’ Kirya said.
He further said that,“UPDF now launched the attack on terrorist in DR. Congo something it should have done before the incident occurred . He wondered what the security is hiding, the people dubbed as terrorist could the wrong elements with UPDF who might have staged an illegal road block with intentions of robbing”
“We have registered a cowardly terrorist attack on two foreign tourists and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The three were killed, and their safari vehicle burnt. Our joint forces responded immediately upon receiving the information and are aggressively.’’ The Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said after the incident on his twitter handle.
On October 21, President Museveni also wrote on his twitter handle which reads in parts; “This is to inform you that today, the 21st of October, 2023, we paid a serious visit to the ADF terrorists in Congo. Our gunships attacked a big camp of these criminals, 60kms from the border, Ntoroko side. The attack was devastating because it was a clear target and the reconnaissance plane, was monitoring from the air.
Congratulations to our Air-Force and the SDR that locates these criminals. Meanwhile, the group of 5 People that burnt the lorry, the tourist van and killed the 2 tourists with their driver, is being hunted in the area to the left of Bweera- Kikoroongo Road as you come from Bweera.
The UPDF should involve the Police and the Wanainchi to hunt for these groups, running from Congo. They are no longer a military problem. They are; Police, popular vigilance and anti-terrorism efforts. We are destroying their base in Congo.
We salute H.E Tshisekedi for agreeing to work with us to uproot these criminals.
