The Ruling National Resistance Movement District Electoral Commission (DEO) registrars have threatened not to dare do any more work for the party least they are paid their 8 months wage arrears.
On Tuesday 31, 2023 they presented their grievances to the Party’s Secretary General in a meeting with him and their boss Dr.Tanga Odoi who is the chairperson of the commission at Kyadondo plot 10 offices.
Patrick Kamulindwa the chairperson of NRM District Electoral Commission Forum read a 2 page document on behalf of his colleagues and he said they were planning to put down their tools for nonpayment of their wages which accumulated for 8 solid months.
“We receive no contracts and no payments has been effected for the last eight months, through our forum, we have resolved not to proceed with any party activity until our wage arrears are cleared.’’ Kamulindwa said.
The chairman of the NRM electoral commission, Dr. Tanga had convened this meeting which attracted 270 District registrars to disseminate information regarding the min-plan for the 2026 general elections and he was ambushed by his subordinates when they hoped to issue a warning to the secretary general.
Richard Tadwong the secretary general asked them to be patience and retaliate their decision and continue doing their work as he is looking for funds to clear their wage arrears.
Tadwong also remined them that workers at the secretariat also go months without payment including him but have never thought of going on strike but they continue serving the party until funds are available to pay their salaries.
“ We are not civil servants, we are also not in party to expect payment, but we are just here to serve the party even without payment.’’ Tadwong reminded his DEOs.
He further told them, ‘’you should have faith in the party just like the religious believers are having faith in their religions.’’ He also warned on the internal bickering within the districts something he said affects the party activities in such areas.
Their immediate boss Dr. Tanga after hearing their plan he resorted to intimidating them reminding them on how he can fire them and recruit new cadres who can work for the party with one heart.
Jane Alisemeera a commissioner at the party’s electoral commission office warned the DEOs to stop ‘romancing’ with the 2026 potential candidates because this will jeopardize their worker.
She said that these very people will start blackmailing them as election is on the away just like they have been doing in the past when some candidates report to them that they paid their lamp sum money to be declared winners of the primaries but instead another candidate was declared a winner.
Meanwhile Tadwong said that the party will soon start updating the registers right from villages to the district level using the old cleaned registers as plan for the 2026 general elections is under way.
