The Member of Parliament for Buikwe South Dr. Lulume Bayiga has again attacked his fellow opposition for bagging money from President Museveni something he say has largely crippled the opposition forces in the country.
He said that the opposition members negotiate with the NRM chairman in order to get funds to finance their campaigns and others pretend that they are running against President Museveni yet they are in the race just for money.
Bayiga made the claim while addressing participants in the Uganda Young Democrat (UYD) re-union that occurred at Hotel Africana on 8th November, 2023 while meeting was attended by some opposition figures, the notable ones are, the People’s Progress Party chairman Sadam Gayira, Odonga Otto former MP for Aruu County Constituency.
The Buikwe South legislator cited out FDC’s General Secretary Nandala Mafabi and DP’S Norbert Mao and Dr. Gerald Siranda. He said that Museveni is kept in power by security forces who think that if he retires they will not continue to serve. It’s from this note that he reminded them that even the after Museveni’s era they will remain and serve the nation.
He said that as UYD members, they have embarked on a campaign to force Museveni retire through mobilization of people who want a peaceful transition to take place.
“ There’s no single opposition party or individuals that can alone manage the transition but all Ugandans must unit to fight for what the Uganda they want.’’ Dr. Bayiga stressed.
He further said, “ UYD was formulated to bring together the youth who wanted to have a peaceful transition of power because they had seen President Museveni and his NRM party had started going astray .’’ “We have never got what we were aspiring for, we are now re-uniting to gain momentum to fight for change.’’
Micheal Mabike the founding Secretary General of UYD said that they are regrouping to do what they did in the past when they helped many leading opposition figures then win elective positions like the late Mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala and Rt. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye.
“ This time round we are building the new momentum that will be led by a revolutionary organization and we will not be yarning for parliamentary seats like in the past. We want to build a leader who will be acceptable with consensus.’’ The former legislator said.
Mabike also said that the opposition must change the tricks because the ones used twenty years ago are outdated and they want to surprise NRM party.
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) chairman Sadam Gayira said that there are no selected group of people fight for a peaceful transition but everybody should try whatever path that is possible to remove President Museveni from power.
Gayira said that UYD should be given credit instead of being showed negative critics for nurturing most of the current politicians in the country although they are scatter in different political parties.
“ Those for revolutionary fight for years and every time they renew and re-energize. Now we need to build leaders who will take the mantle after Museveni in order to avoid chaos.’’ Gayira reasoned.
He also said that various methods are needed including dialogue but agitators should avoid losing site of the ‘ball’ they are chasing because political dictators can be taken by nature or fall by themselves.
