As UACE Examinations nears it climax, Police in Masaka arrest and detained one Mbarara Univesristy student for allegedly impersonating during the mathematics examination at Nakasoga Secondary School.
According to the UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, Muddu Alex , a student of Mbarara University was hired by Kajwaya Patrick of Nakasoga Secondary school to write for him the mathematics examination but the centre invigilator discovered both of them while they were in the examination room ready to start and alerted police which swung into action and arrested them.
While addressing journalist at Naguru Police Headquarters in a weekly place conference, Kalule said that their were very minimal examination malpractice during the UACE examination writing. She also said that at Jinja CPS, three cases of malpractice were reported. One case involved a candidate of East Secondary School Buyala who had smuggled a phone into the examination room and this was handed over to police.
Another incident was at Good Heart S.S were a laboratory assistant was found providing external assistance to students during Chemistry Practical paper while, a candidate also smuggled unauthorised material into the examination room during a History paper but the spokesperson said that a number of such cases will be handled administratively by the Board’s Security Committee on Examinations.
Meanwhile Kalule also revealed that the process of marking both UCE and PLE scripts has started in the different coordination centers and 33 marking centers have been earmarked where of these 13 will be for PLE and 20 for UCE . A total of 8,000 examiners have been contracted to mark UCE examinations and 6,000 will be marking PLE which are expected to be released during the 3rd week of January 2024.
Kalule also warned individual who engage in misleading candidates and the general public by circulating propaganda on social media platforms, indicating that exams like UCE Physics papers had errors. She said this wasn’t true and asked police to investigate such matter such that the law can take its course.
“The perpetrators of inaccurate statement went ahead to indicate that UNEB is considering recalling the candidates to sit for a supplementary paper. I want to clear this that there wasn’t any mistakes in any concluded examination papers and UNEB has no intention to recall candidates to re-sit for the purported papers.” UNEB’s spokesperson clarified.
