Health workers and patients who get services at Kawaala Health Centre III in Rubaga Division are at risk due to the deteriorated toilet facilities and lack of water for flashing in the facilities.

The toilet facilities have no doors and the flashing system is no longer functional and need agent repair to save the situation for better services even the medical supplies such as cotton, shingles and bandage are lacking and a patient who visits this centre is required to buy them from private pharmacies around the place.

One of the senior health workers who preferred to remain anonymous due to fear of being reprimanded narrated the difficult they experience while at the Centre due to the poor working conditions.

She said that when nature dictates while at the Centre she goes back home to ease herself and even if it’s still working hours it marks the end of the day and patients remain an attended to.

The Dental Clinic is lacking the wheel chair that is used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients after they only one that was available got depreciated beyond repair.

This is the condition of the toilet facilities at Kawaala Health Centre IV

Councilor Ritah Nakubulwa who represents Kasubi and Lubya parishes at Kampala Capital Authority Council (KCCA) and also seats at the council’s Public Health committee said they visited and inspected the health Centre and found out that it’s taken and perceived as health Centre IV yet it’s still receiving medical supplies at the level of health Centre III.

She also noted that National Medical Stores (NMS) delays so much in issuing drugs and other essential supplies for instance the facility is still receiving supplies for the previous year yet the number of people who visit is overwhelming mostly from Kasubi, Kawaala, Nansana and Kawempe.

Nakubulwa yet revealed that condoms and Panadol tablets are supplied in plenty but most of the essential medicines are lacking and when the doctors prescribe the drugs for the patients they have to buy them from private pharmacies at a very high cost.

The male councilor for Rubaga North James Mubiru said that money for such health facility is always passed in the budget but because of corruption it doesn’t fully do what its intended for.

He threated to mobilize people in the area to do a peaceful demonstration and move to the City Hall so as to ask the Executive wing were the money goes.

The spokesperson of KCCA Simon Kasyate was unavailable for a comment since his known mobile telephone numbers were not on by press time.
