Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) trounces FDC and NRM in Thursday’s Woman member of Parliament by-elections for Dokolo District.
Ms Sarah Aguti who in 2021 general elections lost to the late Cecilia Ogwal garnered 23,044 votes from the total of 173 polling stations beating five other candidates in the race. Her closet rival Rose Adong of NRM polled 14001 votes.
While Dr. Rosemary Ocwol Ogwal the late Ogwal’s daughter who run on FDC ticket came third with only 8168 and NUP’s Harriet Ageno came fifth with only 727 votes. The two independent candidates in the race, Akullo Esther-Obot and Rebecca Arao managed 790 and 439 respectively.
Who is Aguti?
Sarah Aguti Nyangkori holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Uganda Christian University, Mukono.
In 2021 she contested unsuccessfully against the late Cecilia Ogwal for the same post on UPC flag and she polled 10, 460 votes against 32,223 for the eventual winner.
She emerged as UPC ‘s flag bearer after her party’s internal rival candidates, Josephine Acen Okullu and Anna Okwir who had also shown interest voluntarily withdrew from the race.
