POLICE HAS INITIATED INVESTIGATIONS IN VIOLENT ATTACK ON BUHWEJU MP MWIJUKYE

Police Bushenyi and Buhweju have initiated investigations into circumstances under which Hon. Mwijukye Francis the MP for Buhweju Constituency was attacked and injured, while responding to a land conflict on the 12.05.2024 at 3:30pm at Nyakishana Sub-county.

This follows complaints from church goers at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church and other members of Rwamabare Farmers Association, who claimed their church was at a risk of removal/demolition in acts of land grabbing by a one Kamugisha Frank a neighbor with whom they are in dispute over the church land.

According to the police mouth piece SCP. Fred Enanga, this prompted Hon Mwijukye who represents the area in parliament on FDC ticket to visit the scene but only to meet the rival group armed with sticks and roughed him up and during the violent confrontation, he sustained serious injuries on the head and was rushed to Nsiika Health Centre 4, by police, for medical treatment.

“The public should know that legislators are representatives of their constituents and shoulder the responsibility of Parliament. Therefore, any threats of violence against legislators, is an attack on the core of our democracy.’’ Enanga stated.

He further said that the acts of impunity against legislators will not be tolerated and culprits will be apprehended to face the law.

“We are actively investigating the matter to reach its logical conclusion and we will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.’’ He said.
