Joy as couple get back their kid that was allegedly kidnaped by a housemaid from Mayuge District and had stayed with the family for only two weeks.
The Kajansi Territorial Police, in collaboration with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence mounted a search and successfully rescued Sserwada Lucas, a one-and-a-half-year-old child, who was reported kidnapped by the maid Nakija Prossy, aged 20, on 10th July 2024 from his parent’s home in Ngobe Zone, Bunamwaya Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson ASP. Luke Owoyesigyire, Nakija, who had been living with the family for two weeks, left the house with the child and a bag packed with cloths and some other house hold items on the day of the incident.
Upon realizing that the child was missing, his father, Nimrod Mugagga, reported the disappearance to Ngobe Police Post which immediately started investigations which led to the recovery of the kid.
“After registering the case of Kidnap, our officer in Kajansi Police in collaboration with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI), commenced an investigation to trace the suspect’’, Owoyesigyire said.
He further said, during the investigation, the team arrested Kayanga Allan, aged 20, in Luzira, who has been identified as Nakija’s boyfriend. Further investigations led the team to the Mayuge landing site, where Nakija was apprehended with the child, who was found alive and in good condition, as she attempted to cross over to the next island.
According to Owoyesigyire, the motive for the kidnapping is still unknown. He said that efforts are ongoing to interrogate the suspects for more details.
“We commend the dedicated team of detectives from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence for their swift response, which led to the successful rescue of the child. The suspects are currently detained at Kajansi Police Station as investigations continue.’’ He said.
Owoyesigyire also promised to the media that more details will be provided as soon as police is done with investigations.
