Despite a number of Examiners quitting marking Uganda Certificate of Examinations, Uganda National Examination Board UNEB says this will not affect the marking exercise.
The Principal Communications Officer, Jennifer Kalule said that this hasn’t happened for the first time and even in the other years it has been occurring marking of examinations have been ending on time.
‘’As UNEB we are confident that the marking exercise will end on time because we planned for such eventuality and teacher who remained are enough to accomplish the task,’’ Ms. Kalule asserted
She added: “ Over the past years, teachers recruited to mark examinations some after realizing the amount they will receive at the end of fulfilling their task they quit on grounds that its low but those who remain normally complete the work on time.’’
A total of 7,000 were recruited to mark the 2024 UCE examinations but about 159 have quit the work and these are mostly Science teachers specifically those for Physics and Agriculture subjects.
In a press statement signed and issued by UNEB’s Executive Director Dan Odongo on Monday this week, indicates that while some examiners objected to the adjust rates, majority accepted and marking started effectively at all centers.
“About 100 out of the 400 examiners Physics walked out of the Marking Centres, while 59 quit marking Agriculture.“ The press statement reads in parts.
Kalule who spoke to our reporter to day assured the public to stay calm that examination results will be released on time despite the challenge faced.
