LACK OF FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY HAS LED TO THE DECLINE OF POOL GAME

There was a heated deliberation as delegates of the Pool Association of Uganda demanded their treasurer David Mugabi to avail to them the accountability on income and expenditure for the year.

Christopher Kunihira tasked the promoter of Upper Volta pool club tasked the treasurer Mugabi to avail to the members an audited report but it was all in vein instead he read the report which was not audited which left the members murmuring.

Kunihira also quelled the way the association entered into an agreement to use its content without paying and fund to the association he tasked the Executive to explain the members this came about.

“ The association cannot get sponsors when the leaders do not give accountability on how they run the association’s activities especially the funds that are flowing into its coffers. The association has a secretariat therefore, we would expect all things regarding activities to be documented which isn’t the case now “. Kunihira said

He further said that the executive has worked below his expectation and this has led to the decline of the sport to the extent that it can no longer even attract sponsors, he said that they performed at only 30% .

The chairman of the association Bod Trubish said that auditors are still working on the financial report of the year 2022 and he expect them to finish it by February this year after which he will convene an extra ordinary assembly to deliberate on and pass it.

He said that in 2022 the association operated on a budget of only UGX 200 millions and most of the events were not done due to the limited funds and he attributed this to the effect of Covid-19.

Trubish said that the executive is working on the association’s constitution review because he wants the Association to turn into a federation such that regional bodies can become members and this will enhance the development of the game.

“ We want our association to turn into a federation because this is the way to go, most to sports are organized into federations. We want to spread out into all parts of the country just like other leading sports in the country for instance we 8 pool regions and we want these to be part of the federation’’. Trubish narrated.

He added: “ We are planning to work on a tight budget of only UGX 1 billion and we are hopeful that the costs for running this year’s events will be covered including the National Open tournament which hasn’t been running since 2018’’.

In 2020  Bob Trubish was impeached by the members of the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) in an extra ordinary general assembly held at Nob View, Ntinda in Kampala and an interim committee headed by Adam Ssebi was appointed to take charge of the association on an interim basis.

The main reasons for his impeachment included lack of accountability with reports indicating about Shs25m was embezzled since then, the game of pool has struggled with the National Pool League facing the effect while the prestigious National Open was not held last year after sponsors Nile Special opted to pull out from bankrolling the event due to internal wrangles in PAU.
