Uganda is set to benefit from Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) as the organization is planning to set up its Headquarters here. The council resolved to construct the head offices here having obtained free land donated by Uganda government.
The international Afro- Arab youth council is planning to construct a mega facility that will host the Headquarters of the organization, a cultural heritage centre and a play ground and a vocational training institute which will cost over US $ 200 million.
The Secretary General of AAYC Dr. Agaba Abasi while addressing journalist at Uganda Media Centre, said that president Museveni who also doubles as the partron of the organization donated 50 acres of land located in Nakawuka, Sissa Sub-county in Wakiso District and the paper work regarding ownership has been completed.
“ The organization is now set to start developing the land donated by President Museveni but we are still waiting for funds which are supposed to be pooled by the member states.’’ Dr. Agaba said.
He further said that President Museveni has already written to the leaders of the member countries to effect their contribution towards the development of the project and he is expecting to collect US $ 200 million.
He also said that some member countries like Morocco pledged to construct a play ground while Qatar pledged to construct a modern culture Heritage Centre were the Ugandan and Arab culture things will be kept for purposes of tourism conservation.
Uganda is also set to host this year’s AAYC meeting when the council will be celebrating its 18 years of existence and a number of activities will be done like the Health run on March 4, 2023 that will be take place in Kabalore District and will be graced by the Omukama of Tooro as the chief runner and the minister of Health from Egypt is also expected to participate.
Although it’s a health run, it will be competitive because there will be prizes to be won by the participants, such as a TV-set, bicycles, phones, blankets and bed covers, Heifer cows and others. The races are organized basing of the age category and gender.
This year’s celebrations will be under the theme; Transforming Food Systems, Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.’’
The will also be a health camp at Ntale Health Centre IV which is also locate in Fortpotral municipality Kabalore District and 25 specialized doctors from the different member countries are expected to extend the medical services to people who are suffering from different help problems.
The health run according to Dr. Agaba will be preceded by the dialogue which will take place at Kampala International University from 5-7 March, 2023 and on March 9, 2023 President Museveni will close the 4 day dialogue. About 50 younger people who are leaders from mostly different academic institutions and from various member states are expected to attend and participate in the dialogue.
