Hundreds of thousands of faithful turned up at Bishop Senior School in Mukano municipality, Mukono District on Sunday 26, February, 2023 to witness the consecration and enthronement of Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo as the fifth bishop of Mukono Church of Uganda diocese.
The consecration was presided over by Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu with the help of Bishop Patrick Wakula of Busoga Diocese who was also the main preacher and Bishop Prof. Alfred Olwa of Lango Diocese.
Bishop Kagodo made vows were he also accepted to relinquish power and vacate the office if 2/3 majority of the house of bishops censer him in case of failure to adhere to the constitution of Church of Uganda and to the norms and teaching of the bible.
In his speech, Bishop Kagodo pledged to established projects that will help to enhance the welfare of reverends and catechist as well as completing the Pension house and that was started by his predissecor bishop James William Ssebagala. He also said that he will ensure that each reverend who do not have means of transport get them so as to ease their movements as they are reaching out to people.
In his remarks he also said that he will encourage the diocesans to embrace crop farming especially coffee and banana growing because these will help to enhance the livelihood as well as reducing on the poverty levels among his people. He also said in his term of service it will be a church policy to see that each parish has a banana plantation for the bishop as a way of encouraging the rural dwellers to embrace farming.
He directed that land committee for the different parishes to plant trees in the boundaries of the church land because this will help to protect it from land grabbers as well as conserving the environment. He also pledged to work with the central government especially in projects that are geared towards improving the welfare of people
President Museveni in his speech read by the vice president Maj. Jessica Alupo asked the new bishop to encourage the masses to embrace commercial activities especially commercial agriculture , ICT and cottage Industry because this will help to fight the poverty levels in the country.
“ Poverty is mostly caused by subsistence farming which is dangerous in the modern era. I therefore argue you as a leader to support government in its social economic transformation policies that it’s under taking.’’ The statement reads in parts.
Government also gave a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado registration number UBN 490D to the bishop. The function was also graced by Bishop Christopher Kakooza of Lugazi Catholic Diocese , the Archbishop of the Orthodox church in Uganda Leronymos Muzeeyi, two ministers and area members of parliament and other high ranking dignitaries.
