WE HAVEN’T TURNED A YEAR YET BUT 410 CASES HAVE OCCURRED IN 2 MONTHS

The traffic police said that between the period 13/2/23 and 18/2/23 they registered 410 accidents nationwide of which 51 were fatal, 230 were injured and 129 were damaged and no one was injured.

Speaking to reporters at Naguru Police headquarters, traffic police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima said 410 vehicles were registered and 375 others were killed.

He said they were able to record the deadliest road accidents in Busoga East where they recorded six deaths and Kampala North five deaths.

Nampiima also said they have registered 31 road accidents in Kampala North, 25 road accidents in West Nile, 24 road accidents in Kampala East and 23 road accidents in Kampala South.

Nampiima said the traffic police in the country looked at the areas where vehicles were mostly damaged with Kampala South registering 29 vehicle accidents with no casualties, Kampala East registering 23 vehicle accidents with vehicles being damaged.

Also reported from 19-25 February 2023 Nampiima said they were able to register 424 accidents of which 50 accidents resulted in deaths, 243 accidents with serious injuries and 131 vehicle damage with no deaths making a total of 424 accidents.

Nampiima said the traffic police were able to register 424 victims with 371 registered, 50 dead and 321 missing with crimes.

Kampala East has recorded seven fatalities, Masaka has recorded five fatalities and Wamala has recorded five fatalities.

The areas that recorded the deaths were Kampala South 44 , Kampala East 29, West nile 23,

Kampala South 39, Kampala East 29 , Nampiima said each accident was investigated as it was and that the causes of the accidents were drivers not following road signs, drinking alcohol, reckless driving as the causes of the accidents.

He said that Boda Boda drivers are the main cause of traffic accidents in Kampala as they do not follow the traffic lights on the roads

Police have also warned motorists to pay for their criminal license plates before they are arrested as they will launch raids against vehicles that have not paid their license plates.
