A POLICE DETECTIVE HAVE BEEN EXPELLED FROM THE FORCES FOR RAPE

A police detective in Buyende District, Busoga region has been dismissed from the force with immediate effect after finding him guilty for raping a woman who had go to police to report a case of violence against her.

It is alleged that Detective Inspector of Police Balikoowa, the officer who was in charge of Criminal Investigation Department at Namusiita Police Post enticed the woman who had gone to report a case of domestic violence by her husband by promising to give her a place to stay for the night until the next day having learnt that the victim was afraid of her husband inflicting more body harm on her.

While addressing reporters in a weekly security press briefing at Naguru police Headquarters, Enanga said that the police officer drove the victim and dropped her near Namusiita police post and promised to help her arrest the husband and committee him to court.

“The victim had gone to report a case of domestic violence against her husband. When she reported the matter, police dispatched a team of three officers to look into the matter. They went to the home of the victim to arrest the suspect but didn’t find him. The victim feared to return to her home until the husband is arrested and at around 6pm, our officer, Balikoowa asked the victim to go with him since he had found a place where she could sleep that night.” Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said.

He further explained that the police officer drove the victim to his home in Nakabira police barracks, bought her food and drinks and afterwards he raped her which act was regrettable.

Meanwhile, upon arrest, the husband reconciled with his wife after accepting to foot the medical bills for the injuries inflicted on her.

“It is at this stage that the case of rape was reported against Detective Inspector of Police Balikoowa. He was consequently arraigned before the Police disciplinary Committee for the improper behaviour and was found guilty thus leading to his dismissal.”

Enanga also told reporters that, Balikoowa will later be committed to courts of law to face charges of rape and abuse of office.
