A Tough Lady who assulted a Traffic Officer is Sweeting after being detained by Police- IGP Warns Public

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has warned the public to stop violent acts against police officers while performing their duties. 

This follows two separate incidents that occurred last week in Kampala where culprits were seen in videos that went viral on social media, were two different ladies were seen assaulting traffic police officers.

The IGP hailed the two traffic officers who acted professionally while being attacked by the civilian ladies in the two separate incidents even though they were attacked doing lawful work and ought to have defended themselves but both chose to remain calm and did what the law requires.

In a message read by the force’s spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, the Police Force boss warned the public to always avoid confronting police officers and behaving in unawkward manner while stopped by traffic police.

Over the weekend social media was a washed with a story were a lady who was identified as Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha was seen slapping a traffic officer who attempted to stop her having allegedly caused an accident along Lugogo –Jinja road.

On October 18,2024,at around  11:35 am, police constable Charle Makaawa a traffic police officer attempted to stop vehicle registration number UBM 439T a Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly being driven by mercy Timbitwire at the time despite signals, the motorist continued her way towards and she parked at Lugogo UMA parking yard.

Makaawa followed the car because it had allegedly caused an accident on reach the Mercy the driver of the car, she grabbed the officer’s two mobile phones and the gadget used to check the permits and locked them in her car.

According to the police’s mouth piece Rusoke, Mercy while driving along Makerere University Business School knocked down a bodaboda rider but did bather to stop and just continued her way towards Lugogo UMA show grounds but when she was signalled by the police officer to stop she just continued.

Mercy was there after arrest at detained at Jinja Road Police Station from and by press time was yet to be produced to court to answer three charges of assaulting a police officer, Charles Makaawa and another of trying to steal his mobile phones.

Meanwhile the IGP also commended Abdallah Tusiime for being patriotic and persevered to do his work while it was raining even without a rain jacket on her body.
