Afande Joshua Cheptegei wins Gold in a new Olympic record Plus $ 50,000

Prodigal son Joshua Cheptegei bags Gold medal for Uganda from the France 2024 Olympic Games as he sets men’s 10,000m new Olympic record in first track final at Paris.

 The win earned him $50,000 ( about UGX 87M) a new prize for Olympic track this year and he got a chance to ring the bell at the end of the Stadium something reserved only for newly crowned Olympic champion.

Ugandans who had huge hope in the Assistant Superintendent of Police prior to the start of the 10,000 m race and they were eagerly waiting to watch the event in bars and in betting places

He led a group of 13 runners with four laps to go and Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi who won silver was on his neck in the final round and he near over took him but he endured.

 This is the 4th Gold medal for the world 10,000m and 5,000m record-holder won in a row and adds to the silver medal he won in Tokyo-Japan in 2020 plus others he took in 2019,2022 and 2023.

The police officer attributed his victory to prior and proper preparations for France 2024 Olympics Games. He thanked the government and his bosses at Police for enabling him to reach this height

It looks like we have a close finish between Fisher and Berihu Aregawi of Ethiopia for silver.

Cheptegei 26:43.14, an Olympic record for gold. Aregawi 26:43.44 for silver and Fisher just 0.02 further back for bronze.
