Uganda joins the rest of African Countries to commemorate Africa Liberation Day that is celebrated every year on 25th May and this year’s celebrations will be held at Kololo Independence grounds.
According to the UPDF spokesperson Brig. Felix Kulayigye, who spoke to the media on behalf of the organizing committee, the day was chosen by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which transformed into African Union (AU).
“ We are still in struggle for Social Economic transformation of African people and this makes marking such a day important.’’ Brig. Kulaigye said.
Uganda People’s Defence Forces has now partnered with the Pan African Movement and Ministry of Internal Affairs to mark and celebrate the day in line with NRM ideology of Patriotism and Pan Africanism as always emphasized by President Museveni.
Brig. Kulayigye also said Ambassadors from the different African countries here will have arranged with their countries to exhibit at Kololo to show case the products they produce and cultural tourism through dances.
The commemoration will be under the theme: “ Guaranteeing Safe Environment for a Digital Pan African Education System: Creating a Center of Gravity for the United Africa States (UAS)’’.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs Deputy Spokesperson Rachael Nakiwala said that the commemoration will start with a solidarity matching from Independent Monument at Sheraton Hotel enroute to Kololo Independence grounds where the function will take place and the forces like UPDF, Police, Prisons and Internal Affairs each will be represented by 20 people as well as Uganda Scouts.
The Pan –African Heroes like Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Mwalimu Juluis Nyerere, Patricia Lumumba are always remembered and prayed for on this day.
