The State Minister of Trade, Industries and cooperatives Hon Harriet Ntabazi has urged Ugandans to start preparing for the Algerian market which she has given them to establish trade between the two countries where they are going to be free the two governments to establish a common market.
The Minister, who was opening the Uganda-Business forum and Trade Exhibition at Hotel Africana, said the forum is scheduled to run until 2nd October
Harriet Ntabazi said the Algerian government gave them a free market and every Ugandan who has something to sell should take advantage of this opportunity.
He said farmers should also speak out because Algeria needs 2400 tonnes of milk per month as well as meat and fish in large quantities and Uganda will benefit from the market.
And Uganda has been able to expand its market in neighboring countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Congo and South Sudan but traders have been facing problems for example Ugandan milk is banned in Kenya here Uganda lost huge amount of money and traders now it is time to expand trade elsewhere.
The Minister said President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni visited Algeria and held talks with his counterpart on trade and now the fruits are starting to bear because of the market created where traders will take their goods to Algeria without anyone touching their hands
Harriet urged the industry to improve the quality of coffee as well as farmers to grow food, as well as barley as Algerians love to drink coffee with good quality.
He said the Ugandan government will not allow these traders to take substandard goods to the market and we will arrest them.
