Early morning hours of Tuesday were marred with tension in all the streets of Kampala and government installations have been guarded with security forces police and army. The tension continued up to hours of retiring home and about 70 youth were brutally arrest by the joint security operation.
This follows vigorously announcements in social media and online publications by a group of youth who wanted to match to parliament to show their dissatisfaction on how parliament allegedly has been a center of corruption tendencies.
Outsiders were in the morning past lunch time not allowed to access government installations only staff after thorough checking were allowed to pass through small gates for instance at KCCA and the neighboring entities like prime minister’s office and Parliament.
Some group of youth had sneaked into the city centre along Bomb Road and thy pulled out their play cards some reading Speaker Anita Among must resign but were arrested by police with the help of Army amidst resistance.
Johnbaptised Nambeshe the Member of Parliament for Minjiya County Bududa District on NUP ticket who was interviewed by this reporter while passing by parliamentary avenue said that corruption has become endemic in the country and the youth are concerned because they suffer a lot due to challenges like unemployment, inadequate health systems and has prompted them to show their dissatisfaction.
He attacked President Museveni whom he says condoms corruption because he discouraged the brilliant ideal brought by IGG Betty Kamya which was about audit the lifestyle of civil servants.
“President Museveni doesn’t have the will whatsoever of fighting and combating corruption from the country. First of all he discouraged a brilliant idea by the IGG of lifestyle audit of government workers which help to curtail corruption tendencies,” Hon
Nambeshe said.
The president cautioned the IGG Kamya Namisango on the lifestyle audit when he told her to go slow on such a measure.
Nambeshe further said, quoting the president, “it doesn’t harm so much as long as they steal and invest here locally.” The made both electronic and print was a washed with that president’s statement on corruption.
He also said that the youth who staged a demonstration had a right to do so and government feared it that is why it had to deploy combined security forces to block it because anticipating that it would result into chaos just like what happened in Kenya.
Fatuma Abbas an NRM ardent support who also talked to the our reporter said that demonstration are geared towards disrupting peace in the country which her father fought for.
She also said that the youth should go slow on such issues; they are neither the first nor the last to be in such age category.
“We don’t want what happened in our neighbors to occur here because it wasn’t good it was destructive, government properties were ruined,” Fatuma Stated.
