Animal theft has increased- Police Intensifies Operations

Police has intensified efforts to crack down on Animal theft in the different area in the country so as to combat such crime elements.

According to the police’s mouth piece, ACP. Rusoke Kituuma, operations occurred in Savanah region , 50 case were reported and registered with different police stations and 54 suspects were apprehended,  of these 40 were committed to court.

While addressing reporters at Naguru Police Headquarters on 23rd Monday, 2024 he revealed that a total of 461 animals were reported stolen from individual homes and farms.  However 352 have been recovered.

He also said that animals are being transported using forged veterinary documents, fake license and smartly rude arrest. They also mostly use saloon cars instead Lorries, some slaughter and park meet in boots of such cars while other even transport live animals and beat check points.

  “We face a challenge of habitual offenders who when arrested enter into negotiations with the victims and compensate them with even fine this jeopardizes our investigations and we end up not prosecuting such suspects,’’ Rusoke said

He also said some cattle keepers graze their animals in open place and this in a way aid thieves because it becomes easier for them to steal animals which finding any difficult.

Operations in the Districts of Kiboga, Kyankwazi, Mubedde and Mityana is ongoing to net the culprits.
