The Archbishop of Kampala Catholic Diocese Paul Ssemogerere has urged the faithful to avoid engaging in gambling and dubious deals when seeking to amass wealth. He cautioned the two always be disciplined, faithful and have integrity.
He made the advice while officiating at Kampala Caritas Cooperatives exhibition that took place at St. Joseph Nansana Parish in Nansana Municipality Wakiso District on November 5, 2023 were he cautioned the different SACCO managers and board committee leaders as well as members to be trustworthy.
He said that people should work hard through using wisdom, energy and our talent that is when we will get blessings from God and accumulate everlasting wealth other than from gambling and deals which are a sign of laziness. Other people who have jobs get their wealth through corruption this is also a sin.
“ I pass across many people seated not working and such people usually say the rich are having their money this is a poor mindset. Don’t curse the rich because you are poor just wake up and start working now.’’ Archbishop Ssemogerere told the faithful.
He reminded the faithful that even Apostle Paul in his teachings, he commanded to use talents to work and to produce to fill the universe because this is God’s will. He however cautioned people not to be in church all the time saying that there should time for player and time for work.
“ We have very good land but we just sell it. Stop selling your parents’ land because this will lead you to absolute poverty and even your health will deteriorate.’’ The Bishop cautioned the youth.
The bishop also challenged government to put specialist in its hospitals such that the citizens stop flying to Europe and Indian seeking for better medical services that this will also help to save such funds being spent on trips and medical bills.
“We want our hospitals should have specialists and equipment for treatment of heart disease and those that are used in surgery.’’
Father Dominic Mwebe the parish priest to St. Joseph Nansana Parish also urged the congregation to work beyond the level they have been because this will help them avoid acts that will lead them to hell.
Father Peter Musumba the head or Caritas at the Diocese said that a total of 37 SACCOS from the different parts of the diocese participated in the exhibition and people were given free medical check up curtsy of St. Francis Hospital Nsanbya, Rubaga Hospital and St. Joseph Wakiso Hospital.
