BATTLE BETWEEN QUEEN SHEEBAH AND CINDY IS ON MID SEPTEMBER

The battle between the two best female musicians of their generation in Uganda is slated to occur on September 15, 2023 curtsy of Victoria University.

Queen Sheeba Kalungi and ‘The King Herself Cinderella Sanyu’, commonly kwon as Cindy will be battling at Kololo Airstrip for fans to decide who of the two musicians is actually the King and Queen, it’s expected to be a very fierce battle because of the long-term rivalry.

Although both stars don’t see eye to eye and they have never sang in the same festival, Victoria University managed to convince them to take on the fight because fans what to know who the best is.

The Vice Chancellor of Victoria University Prof. Lawrence Muganga while addressing the media at the university’s campus along Jinja Road said that as a person has been closely monitoring the media reports surrounding Queen Sheebah Kalungi and `The King Herself Cindy and he acknowledged that their recent verbal artillery reflects their passion of the music and their huge talent.

“ Ambassador Queen Sheebah Kalungi and ` The King Herself’ Cindy Sanyu have demonstrated their capabilities as influential artists who significantly impact their audiences prompted the University to organize a contest for them.’’ Prof. Muganga said in his address.

He further said that, their ability to influence the minds of the younger generation and the entire public is commendable because it helps to change the mind set as well as creating jobs.

Passionate Entertainment journalist Josephat Sseguya working with Bukedde TV on ‘Olugambo’ program who also attended the press briefing described the battle between the two singers is a show case between the greatest experience and greatest music performer. He says the Queen Sheebah is good as a live performer while Cindy is best while using a CD.

Prof. Muganga down played the idea that the show will create more bickering between the two rivals and the in the end it impact on the music industry negatively. He said that will instead enhance and promote it because it’s like football when two rival teams play each other after the game fans and even the players themselves continue with their normal lives without fighting.

Meanwhile he also said that, the Inspiration and BusinessClass will take place on September 14, 2023 a day before the expected thrilling battle on the same venue. The Vusi Thembekywayo MasterClass is themed, Adapt or Perish: Innovate for Survival,’’. It is expected to host 2000 participants and 43% of the slots are already booked.

The University don said that, Victoria University is very eager to bring together art, education and business in a harmonious symphony with an aim of shaping the future of the nation such that the younger graduates do not search for white collar jobs which are very scarce in the country today but can earn a living using the skills acquired while at the University training.

‘The King Herself’ Cindy Sanyu

Cindy was born in 1985 in Kampala but her parents hail from Mbale District. She began her carrier when she was aged 6 in her local church located in Ntinda Nakaw Division. She took part in “Capital Radio All Stars talent search”  competitions when she was 16 years old and She became third best.

 She also once worked with producer Steve Jean who made sure she participated in the “Coca-Cola Pop Stars” contest, which led to the formation of Blu*3 in 2003.

With Blu*3, Cindy came to the limelight after winning the Best Artist/Group from Uganda & Best Music Video from Uganda in the 2005 Kisima , Music Awards with her Blu*3 group and in the same year she was nominated for both best East African Group Kora  Awards, and best East African Album as well as Tanzania Music Awards. 

 In 2006 she won the Channel O Music Video Awards and in 2007 she also won the Pearl of Africa Music and Video of the year Awards.

She abandoned the group in 2008 and embarked on her sole career after in 2009 made her  Debu solo album, ` Ayokyayokya’ which topped that charts in East Africa with hits like “ Mbikooye“ and “ Nawewe“, “Ayokyayokya“ she has produced more successful songs such as “Selekta“.

She  also won the Best Group and BEST Performer in the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards and Best East African Song, `Where you are` with Radio and Weasel in the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards.

Sheebah`s Life and career

Sheebah Karungi was born in 1989 and raised by a single mother in Kawempe Division in Kampala district. After completing her basic education at Kawempe Muslim Primary School, she dropped out of school in senior two when she was a student of Midland High School, Kawempe

At the age of 15, she started dancing for money, after she joined a dance group called Stingers before she left the group for Obsessions Music Group in 2006. At Obsessions she developed an interest in music, recording two songs before she left the group for a solo career in music

She gained recognition after the release of her hit single “Ice Cream” in 2014 she released a five-track which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist from 2015 to 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award thrice between 2017 and 2019 of the same.

Before she came to the limelight, she had earlier released “Kunyenyenza”, her first official single, produced by Washington with writing credit from Cindy her rival now.

Upon the success of “Automatic”, she teamed up again with Sizzaman to release “Ice Cream” to massive airplay and positive reviews before she went on to release another hit single, “Twesana”.

In 2014, Sheebah released her first musical project, Ice Cream, a five-track EP which contained hit singles including “Ice Cream” and “Jordan”. The EP was well received and helped win her Best Female Artist at the 2014 and 2015 HiPipo Music Awards.

She also held Nkwatako Concert in 2016 and Omwoyo Concert in 2018 at Hotel Africana in Kampala. Both concerts were organized by her management, Team No Sleep. Omwoyo Concert was choreographed by Cathy Patra who has choreographed and appeared in most of her videos. On her second concert, Omwoyo, she was criticized for her low vocal ability as a live performer.

Sheebah is also a business woman. Under her Sheebah Investments program, she has opened a number of businesses around Kampala including The Red Bar, Red Events co-owned with dancer Cathy Patra, a hair extension business called Sheebah by Natna and others. She also owns a large mansion plus a boat.
