The Uganda Human Rights Commission is still searching for 18 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters who were allegedly disappeared by security forces in 2021 as the country was heading for the presidential election.
According to the commission, it received a complaint from the National Unity Platform (NUP) in November last year that the NUP had brought a list of 25 people who were allegedly not present.
Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mariam Fauzat Wangadya said the commission has identified seven people who were harassing National Unity Platform supporters.
He said 18 others are still being investigated and have not been identified. Seven of the three were charged with intentional homicide but were granted bail at the police station.
Four of the seven were taken to Rubaga Magistrate’s Court and charged with vandalism.
Mariam said the National Unity Platform has refused to appreciate the work of the commission to rescue the seven people but the Nup is not insulting them for failing to find people to appreciate them at this time they have been able to save their National Unity Platform members.
Wangadya said the National unity platform should stop going to the media to insult them because it hurts them as the Human Rights Commission
Mariam Fauzat Wangadya said she was expecting a list of about 100 people but the National Unity Platform (NUP) brought 25 people. She said the NUP should stop lying to the people that there are people who have been kidnapped which is not true.
Wangadya said they are still searching for 18 missing persons.
