BUWEKULA COUNTY MP AND MUBENDE DISTRICT CHAIRMAN SUMMONED BY POLICE ON ALLEGED MURDER OF A COUPLE

Police CID and Crime Intelligence departments have summoned Buwekula County member of Parliament Mbabazi Pascal and Mubende District LC V chairman Muhereza Ntambi Micheal to make statements as regards to the gruesome murder of a couple who had gone to check on workers in their farm in Buwekula, Mubende District.

It’s  alleged that the area politicians above fuelled the land disputes between the scoters of the late Zakalia Saku Kikonygo’s land administrators which caused themob justice leading to the murder of  a one  Milly Naava Namutebi, 54, and her husband Abdullah Kayiza, 53 on July 31, 2023.

While addressing Journalists at Naguru based Police Headquarters, in a weekly press conference, SCP. Fred Enanga said that the duo have been summoned to make statements on the alleged citing of violence and conniving with the scoters of the said land which led to the gruesome murder of the couple and critically injuring the deceased’s two sons.

“We have gotten information that the local politicians before the murder incidence, incited violence against the late Zakalia Saku Kikonyogo’s land administrators which we think could have influenced mob justice against the victims. The area LC III chairperson Ahimbishibwe Steven has already made his’’ SCP. Enanga said.

He further says that, Tumusiime Benjamin one of the scoters and a prime suspect called Namutebi the grand daughter to Kikonyogo the former land lord of the disputed land to go for negotiations because the culprit had before chased away Namutebi’s workers who were working in her gardens.

On July 31, 2023, the deceased’s fateful day, Namutebi and her husband Kayizi together with their two sons, Kawuma Ibrahim,21 and Sekamate Muzafali 17 who survived death travelled to Mubende and on reaching their home at around 7:45 am, Tumusiime saw them and raised an alarm were he also made phone calls according to police to alert other scoters.  

Some of the said scoters who are alleged for having been hidden in the nearby bushes came out with pangas and machetes and started immediately beating and cutting Namutebi and Kayiza while their two sons managed to escape with severe injuries.

Police has so far arrested some of the suspects, who are identified as Tumusiime Benjamin the ring leader, Rukundo and Basemire Milly and they have been charged to court for murder and attempted murder and remanded to Kawere prisons while further investigations and search for the 11 other suspects at large is still ongoing. The other suspects who have not been netted by police are, Nakalyago Rachael, Sseguya Wilber, Nakyambadde Annet and Serugo.

The 3 sq mile land in dispute is located in Kiruma parish plot 1 block 60 comprising of 3 villages, Kiruma, Bulego in Buwekula County in Mubende District.
