The Joint Security Task Force in Fort Portal City, Kamwenge and Kyenjojo Districts respectively has in custody three suspects behind the theft of motor vehicle number plates
A task team of the Flying Squad led by the RPC, and intelligence zeroed on one female suspect, identified as Bonabana Gladys, an associate who led us to Kabonesa Sharon, a lodge attendant at Mutabazi Guest House where the prime suspect, one Richard Kisembo, was arrested.
Upon arrest, Kisembo took police officers to various places of Kitumba, Bukwali, Kijura and others where around 12 motor vehicle number plates were recovered.
The criminal gang after plucking off number plates, would leave behind their numbers 0759487032, 0760687751 and 0706 162394, where they would ask the victims to deposit one hundred thousand shillings (100,000) before telling them where the number plates are hidden.
As police we argue members of the public not give money to such criminal elements. Paying money encourages the vice. We have improved capacity to deal with such criminals. Always report such cases to police for proper management.
The operation is still ongoing to recover more stolen number plates. The suspect is cooperating well with the investigating teams and more effort to recover all the stolen number plates are in place.
