security agencies have received intelligence information that some politicians using the National Unity Platform under Kunga Uganda are planning to stage protests on 08 may 2023 nationwide.
SSP Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, said they continued to print T-shirts and posters they intend to use on the day.
The white T-shirts feature slogans such as “Uganda Economic Protest, It Is Possible, Raise Up, nowitagi uhuru, together we can, kenagum“.
Onyango said the aim of the pending protest is to force the government to introduce basic reductions and everyone is encouraged to participate in it regardless of politics or religion since it affects everyone.
Their goal is to disrupt the peace in the country. The group has been mobilizing in the Mid-Western, Central and Kampala regions.
Onyango said the police in Kampala seized more than 400 T-shirts that were printed and ready to be distributed to the participants. Kiwanuka Isaac, who was found in possession of the T-shirts, was arrested and charged with inciting violence.
This is to warn the public not to engage in any illegal activities. Anyone participating in any unlawful meeting will be arrested and prosecuted in the courts of law.
We appeal to the public throughout the country not to be lured into illegal activities.
