The Democratic Party (DP) has commenced the process for preparations for the 2026 general elections through registration of their members starting with next month.
After registration of members’ country wide, grass root elections will follow which will lead to the getting of delegates who will represent the different districts and constituencies in the delegates conference slated to take place August 2024.
The party’s Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda while addressing reporters at the Party City-House based Offices in Kampala said that his party has embarked on grass root structural renewals as a way of rebuilding so as to prepare in time for the forth coming general elections.
“We have started rebuilding structures in our party for purposes of activating and coming up with party strong organs and the changes we made were gazette by the National Electoral Commission.’’ Dr. Siranda said.
He revealed that the changes made include; the positions, of the Youth leader, Women, people with disabilities who will be members of the delegates conference and their respective deputies. There’s also the position of the Elderly persons, workers, entrepreneurship, informal sector and diaspora representative.
Dr. Siranda also said that each district after changes will be represented by five delegates, the chairperson, Women leader, Youth leader and two from each constituency. He revealed that this is done for better management of the delegates conference in terms of welfare.
