FIVE NOTORIOUS THEIVES ARRESTED BY POLICE AFTER ROBBING US $ 60,000 FROM A BUSINESS MAN

Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested five suspects who allegedly robbed US $ 60,000 and UGX 900,000 from Kampala business man and UGX 30M from a business woman in the same period and in a similar manner.

This followed operation made by Katwe and Old police regional stations on April, 21. 2023, having registered complaints from Moses Tumusiime, 22, a resident of Kamwokya Kampala Central Division who reported  a case of Robbery along Namirembe road and Jane Nalwadda 42 a resident of Masajja Zone in Masajja.

The suspects were identified as  Semambo Adam, Nyangoma Olivia,Denis Agaba and Shaban who are held at Katwe Police station while Sewakirya Aloysious is held at Old Kampala Police as investigations are still ongoing.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police`s deputy spokesperson  Luke Oweyesigire while addressing  journalist in a weekly press briefing at Naguru Police based Headquarters on April 24, 2023, said that on receiving information on how the duo were robbed police  used CCTV Cameras which helped to trace the robbers.

Tumusiime the victim had informed police that the robbers trailed him on three boda-bodas and intercepted him along Namirembe road from where they robbed him of US $ 60,000 ( about UGX 222 m) and UGX 900, 000 cash plus a mobile phone worth  Shs 90,000. While Nalwadda  a phone dealer,  its alleged that she was also robbed UGX 30 M and 5 smart phones worth UGX 2.5 M in a similar way.

It`s from this back ground that police of Katwe and Old Kampala mounted and operation which lead to the arrest of five suspects. A search was made in Semambo`s home after being arrested and US $ 20,000, 100 Euros and 500 Ethiopian currency were recovered. While in Sewakirya`s home only UGX 5M was recovered.

“The suspects have been involved in a number of theft cases previously and upon interrogation they informed us that they steal had cash and mostly electronic gadgets such as smart phones, laptop computers, flat TV screens among others and sell them to dealers at Mutasa Kafero plaza and also export  to DR. Congo, Burundi and Rwanda respectively.“ ASP Owoyesigire said.

He also said that they normally move along with some prominent singers while going to the different places and through this way they identify their victims. He said that they are still carrying out investigations on such singers whom he declined to identify but he said after investigations are done police will call the singers to record statements.

Oweyesigire informed the reporters that Sewakirye Aloysious is a very notorious thief who has been arrested several times but he uses the law to come out of prisons whenever arrested and aligned to court.
