In an effort to change the political land scape of Uganda, the Democratic Party (DP) has embarked on the country wide tour to campaign for the politics of consensus in order to avoid another blood shade embedded in the political history of the country.
This was revealed by the Party’s Vice President Denis Mukasa Mbidde while addressing reporters in weekly press conference held at the City House office in Kampala on July 4, 2023. He said that the country needs to develop a system that will help it to move away from politics of idiotism.
It should be remembered that, after the 1980 general elections, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni led 27 other first bush war members and grabbed guns and went to bush and started fighting the Uganda People’s Congress government and this saw over 500,000 Ugandans lose lives while the survivors in the so called Luweero Triangle lost economic properties and the majority up to now are still demanding for compensation.
Mbidde said that to avoid a repeat of history, it’s time for Ugandans to change their minds on the political land scape of the country and start preaching the gospel of consensus and reconciliation because this will help the peaceful change of government from Bush war Generals to a Civilian government.
“ The DP President Norbert Mao on July 22, 2023 will launch the campaign of politics of consensus and reconciliation from his home city of Gulu at Kawunda Boma grounds and after wards the campaign will be rolled down to all other regions of the country.’’ Mbidde said.
This will be under the Theme: ‘’It’s time for Ugandans to embrace the Politics of Consensus in the whole County.’’
The former East African legislator said that its time to abandon the politics of ‘idiot’ and commence the politics of co-operation because this is the way to go and will help the country to develop and create opportunities for the younger generation.
He also said that the co-operation between his party and NRM party was primarily entered into to see that the two sides champion this, and his boss Hon. Mao was strategically given the ministry of Justice and Constitution Affairs to foster the agenda of constitutional reforms for instance to bring amendments in the constitution on the issue of nominating the chairman of electro commission and other people he/she does work with among others.
Mbidde also said that some of the political agitators who will attend the launch will be given a chance to express their opinions on the co-operation agreement and get the answers to the question on what DP did right or wrong.
He also announced the committed that will help spear head the campaign head by himself and the National chairman of the party Kiwanuka Mayambala, the Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda, Herbert Rutagwera (Organizing Secretary) Christine Mugerwa, Marxencia Takirambudde, Okello Geoffrey (MP) for Norya constituency and Sarah Odong among others. Meanwhile the ruling party’s secretary general will coordinate his party members who will attend the function.
