FOUR MEN SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS FOR AGGRAVATED ROBBERY.

The Uganda peoples Defence forces (UPDF) General Court martial sitting in Makindye Kampala and chaired by Brig Gen Freeman Mugabe has today 15th May 23 sentenced four men ; Kakooza Umar, Kasinga Musa ,Kajubi Yasin and Kyambadde Yasin to 23 years imprisonment for aggravated robbery.

The accused persons were charged on 13th Nov 2018 with the offence of aggravated robbery c/s 285 and 286 (2) of the Penal code Act Cap 120. They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

When there case came up on 29th March 23 ,they changed there plea to that of guilty and therefore were convicted to there own plea of guilty.

The brief facts were read and they accepted them to be true. Counsel for the state prayed for a harsh deterrence sentence saying cases of aggravated robbery were becoming rampant where as cousel for the accused prayed for a linient sentence saying they were young people who able to reform.

Court after listening to both counsels, sentenced them as follows, After deducting a period of 5 years ,6 months and 08 days spent on remand / lawful custody and a period of 1 year Mitigating factors sentenced each of them to 23 years 05 months and 22 days imprisonment.

The Chairman informed them that they had a right to appeal within 14 working days if they are not satisfied with the courts decision.
