Express FC players celebrating after scoring in the recent match
FUFA has lifted the suspension on Express FC matches following the meeting between members of the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) and the FUFA Referees Standing Committee (FRSC) at FUFA House in Mengo with effect from Friday 10th November 2023.
The matches that were affected will be rescheduled by the organisers of the Competition, the email sent to the concerned parties that was copied to the Editor of this website reads in parts.
The suspension was as a result of ugly scenes by a section of fans against one of the referees Fahad Sekayuba who handled the Uganda Premier League match between UPDF FC and Express FC on 27th October 2023 in Bombo. He was attacked on his way back to Kampala after the match.
“The Objective of the meeting was also to discuss matters on protection of the match officials and integrity of the game with the proper application of the Laws of the Game while corrective measures will be undertaken against those errant fans.’’ Ahmed Hussein FUFA Communications’ Director said in an email statement.
He further revealed that, FUFA Executive has also decided that the FUFA Judicial Processes and Government organs in relation to this matter continue for justice to prevail. If individuals or parties are found guilty, they will be sanctioned.
The meeting was attended by the FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim and his third deputy Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, Rogers Mulindwa Member (Competitions),Davies Katabira-Vice Chairman UFRA Decolas Kiiza-FUFA Deputy CEO -Football Brian Nsubuga Miiro-Chairman FRSC Akram Matovu -Vice chairman FRSC Catherine Adipo -FRSC-Technical and Development Saleh Bogere -UFRA Member Hilary Kimbuggwe-CEO UFRA Paul Kabaikaramu-UPL Manager Samuel Egesa-FUFA Referees Manager and Shebah Ampaire-FUFA Legal Officer.
FUFA also agreed to foot the medical bills of referee Fahad Sekayuba.
