After the strike by doctors in various government hospitals, the remaining specialists in these hospitals have also threatened to join their colleagues if the government does not come out to work on their salaries within five days.
They have been suspending operations today ,but have decided to extend the goverment time until 9th of this month
Dr Ismail Mwesigye, a surgeon, told us that they have been asking the govt to increase their salary from Shs 6 million to shs 11 million so that they can be on par with their counterparts in terms of services or consulted specialists
He said the money they earn goes to paying land lords and transport but the authorities in the country earn a lot of money including getting private cars but the doctors who distribute them are not given enough money
They also want the name changed from medical officer special grade to associate consultants or consultants
Dr Iren Nasaba, a specialist in treating the disabled, said that at the time of the jobs they have been sent because their colleagues are on strike and sometimes they fail to treat the people properly.
He urged the government to immediately address the issue of doctors as they are also hurt to see Ugandans dying due to poor working conditions.
