KAMPALA -MASAKA HIGHWAY WASHED BY RAIN, MOTORISTS GIVEN ALTERNATIVE ROUTES AS UNRA FIX IT

Motorists using Kampala Masaka highway are given alternative route after the section of Kyengera to Buddo have been destroyed by the excessive rain.

The can use Katende- Mabuye-Bunjako and join Mityana road and access Kampala City and others can Katende to Nakawuka route to Kisubi and connect to Entebbe road then Kampala City Centre.

Meanwhile a total of 79 people perished in road crashes while 288 sustained injuries last week including a UPDF officer at the rank of major and a lawyer.

According to the Directorate of Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, of the 79 killed in the fatal crashes, 29 were motorcycle riders, 23 pedestrians and 9 were passengers on motorcycle while 18 were occupants in private cars.

Kananura attributed the two fatal accidents that claimed lives of a UPDF Major Habib Nsamba in Mabira and a Raphael Okiit a lawyer at Nkumba Entebbe road to careless overtaking and overspending.

Meanwhile Mr. Kananura said that another fatal crash occurred Kasule- Ayanguwa along Kampala- Masaka highway also on April 17th, 2024 in Mpigi District involving motor vehicle no. UAR 605U Fuso Mistribish and UBH 247L Subaru Forester.

He said the 3 occupants of Subaru Forester died instantly after head-on-collusion with the Fuso whose occupants are yet to be known including its driver who is being hunted by police.

The traffic police mouth piece also confirmed that the fatal crash that claimed the life of Maj. Nsamba was due to careless over taking by the deceased himself who was driving motor vehicle no. UBQ 424 Toyota Land cruiser V8. This rammed into a trailer UBP 644S/ UBB 070N at Sanga in Mabira, Buikwe district along Kampala-Jinja highway.
