While addressing reporters on Monday 16th,2024 Rusoke said that two more arrests had been made regarding the death of the University’s Information Technology personnel, asserting that this makes the total number of suspects detained increase to four.
He also said that Akansasira formerly a resident of Kyebando in Kawempe Division has gone to visit a friend in Namugongo where he went in some joint for buzz but as he was moving around during night the residents suspected him to be a robber and beat him to death,
“The deceased may have gone to a drinking with his friends but residents didn’t do due diligence to ascertain the mental status of the victim before actually starting to ruffing him to death. The ought to have talked to him first and found out his mental stability,’’ Rusoke said.
He added: “ The Mob need to first talk to the suspected person before starting beating him some people have mental problem whereas other may be drunk but not actually thieves and when examined by quizzing such a person you can be able to make a judgment whether the person is of unsound mind or drunk and just in carbage state.’’ He explained.
Rusoke also warned members of the public to stop acting in such manner, because that make the state loss innocent persons and besides that it jeopardizes police’s investigations that may lead to the arrest of other accomplices in case of a suspected thief even if caught in the act red-handed
“This habit of lynching suspected criminals is not good since we lose innocent persons. Give a person an opportunity to explain themselves. Killing them is wrong. Mob action denies police an opportunity to connect to other participants in the crime. Even if someone is got in an offence surrender him so we can use him to get others.”
