The Senior Presidential Adviser on Mobilization Rtd Lt. Col(Ambako Kibrai has urged RDCs in Busoga region and Local government leaders to start  disseminating information regarding government projects to the mass by displaying at their office notice boards and through conducting barazas.

In his remarks while addressing the local leaders in Iganga District in a meeting he convened at the District RDC’s office said that there’s a need for leaders here to carry out Civic education to empower the area masses such that they can understand government programs.

“ Civic empowerment should be a key focus, when people understand government programs, we face fewer challenges, civic education is important if we are to change people’s mindset and move on for prosperity,’’ Lt. Col. Ambako argued.

He also said that, Parish chiefs and senior administrative officers should be ordered to display information on resources and programs at parish and subcounty headquarters to keep the public informed.

The meeting was also aimed at strengthening teamwork and ensures proper monitoring of key government projects as well as making a real difference on the ground focusing on  working together for quality service delivery.

“We need to focus on the important responsibilities so that common occurrences like the provision of air by contractors, shoddy construction, drug theft in hospitals, employee absenteeism, and the disappearance and diversion of funds from the Emyooga, PDM, USE/UPE, among other things, won’t take place,’’ he said.

He also revealed that he has been in Busoga region four times in only 4 months monitoring government programs and meeting individual people but most of those he met were saying that their region has been marginalized.

His findings indicate that people just lacked information regarding the various government programs like the Uganda Women Entrepreneur Program and the Youth Livelihood Program funds which are already on going in Iganga and country wide and many intended people have benefited since the inception of such development programs.
