MAYANJA: LAND STATE MINISTER ATTACKS MENGO AGAIN ON LAND GRABBING

The Minister of State for Lands Dr. Sam Mayanja again attacks Mengo on the rampant land grabbing in the central region saying it’s because of the selfish few individuals in the monarchy that the challenge still persists.

He alleges that Mengo government has been claiming land which should have been for all people and it also created entities like Buganda Land Board Ltd which he says its working illegally using the 1994 Act that gave back Buganda some of its properties but the Enactment of the law didn’t follow the right procedures on what president Museveni had directed.

While appearing on Bukedde FM talk show on the program dubbed ‘Mugobansonga’ deliberating on the NRM 38 years at the helm of the State’s leadership, Dr. Mayanja said that the land wrangles have persisted for 38 due to people who are selfish.

“ President Museveni moves with ordinary people this explains why they cry to him for help whenever they face a land challenge. When Obote was launching the National Constitution which is commonly referred to as ‘Pigeon hole’  was in parliament and said that he didn’t need representatives but just informed them about the new constitution and told them to find  their copies in parliament.’’ Dr. Mayanja explained.

He further said that president Museveni call all people and worked on the constitution in the Constituent Assembly with representatives of the masses and enacted the Republic of Uganda Constitution.

The only challenge is the issue of land not being well tackled especially in Buganda where a few people share large chucks of land making others refugees even the ‘Bibanja’ have a huge challenge.’’ He noticed.

Dr. Mayanja said that Museveni had fought for five years and when he announced that he had ceased power, Mengo people rushed to him and asked for ‘Ebyaffe’, that those opportunists wanted him to give back land which wasn’t theirs.

He alleges that these people caught the president and the constitution committee off guard and succeeded in entrenching the Act in the constitution which gives powers to government to relinquish all assets which belonged to cultural leaders that were ceased after the 1967 constitution came into existance.

Mr. Kasajja Fausto a renowned real estate developer in Kampala and a senior citizen has been saying it repeatedly that while President Museveni was in the bush with his fighters, there were two groups comprising of the non Banyankole, the Baganda and Banyarwada.

He asked each of the two groups what each wanted in case he manages to cease power, the Baganda opt for ‘Ebyaffe’  meaning reinstating the monarchy and giving back its land while the Banyarwanda (Batuusi) opt for support to go back into leadership of their country something that was agreed upon with the war lord.

Despite many opposition figures cursing NRM for being in power for close to 40 years and not doing enough to improve the social-economic welfare of the ordinary citizen, Dr. Mayanja says NAM an the G77+ China meeting are a vote of confidence by many friendly governments.

‘’Museveni started with 27 old guns, he liberated the country and served and help her to develop even 120 countries have trust in him because of his good leadership. If such countries have put trust in him why Ugandans say he shouldn’t come back in 2026?’’

The three years given to him by NAM end in 2027 and he has to relinquish that mandate while still president of the country. I have no doughty the bush war General will close the next NAM meeting, we still need him.
