MEDICAL WORK ARRESTED AND DETAINED FOR RAPING A PATIENT

Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested and detained Entebbe Grade B hospital nurse Denis Kutesa for allegedly attempting to rape two female patients while extending the medical service to them.

On Saturday, 18th February, Kutesa Denis, an intern nurse was arrested over allegations of rape and attempted rape on two female patients at the hospital.

The deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police ASP Luke Owoyesigire said that police is currently investigating the allegations, and the culprit is currently detained at Entebbe Central Police Station.

Oweyesigire said it’s alleged that, the suspect identified his victims from the Gynae ward and then drugged them using a substance suspected to be chloroform before raping them. Suspected chloroform substances were recovered from his place of residence at the hospital, and a letter was found where he requested to be prayed for immoral thoughts he had been experiencing.

‘’We would like to inform the public that it is possible that there may be more victims of  Denis Kutesa’ alleged crimes, and we urge anyone who may have been a victim to come forward and report to the nearest police station.’’ ASP Oweyesigire said. He adds, we take all allegations of sexual assault very seriously, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served for all victims.

He also said, police would also like to re-assure the general public that the safety and security of patients in hospitals are of utmost importance to us, and we will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

Oweyesigire also said that Kutesa will be aligned to court when investigations are done to answer charges of rape and attempted rape.
