21 billion will be spent on the presidential state house in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The money will be used to buy new cars for the president and his vice.
The funds are reflected in the presidential budget for the 2023-2024 financial year.
Overall, the presidential state house has requested (ugx) 57 billion including ugx 21 billion for the purchase of vehicles, others for the renovation of the presidential residence in Nakasero state house, entebbe state house and other supported houses in various parts of Uganda.
However, the finance ministry provided only Ugx 21 billion for the purchase of the presidential and vice presidential cars.
Officials from the presidential state house during a meeting with the presidential oversight committee led by security minister Jim Katugugu Muhwezi vowed that the remaining ugx35 billion for the renovation of the presidential state house which is not in the national budget will also be spent.
The chairperson of the committee, MP for ADjumani district Jesca Babiku, asked officials from the presidential palace to bring the committee the budget for each presidential palace.
The presidential budget is Rs 419 crore for next year 2023-2024 which is down from Rs 434 billion this year.
The budget for next financial year is Ugx 419 crore which includes Ugx 22 billion for the salaries of the presidential state house staff
375 billion for disruption of the presidential state house and 21 billion for development.
