NUP MPS PROTEST AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

Police in Kampala have clashed with NUP women MPs who have been protesting to take a petition to the Ministry of Internal Affairs complaining of police beating them during their rallies in their constituencies.

A total of 11 MPs have been arrest and detained at Kampala police Station pending investigations after which they are will committed to court to answer charges of conducting the unlawful assembly.

They were led by Betty Ethela Naluyima, MP for Wakiso district, who were wearing missing gowns holding pads, but police stopped them and did not allow them to speak out and arrested them.

The arrest of the MPs followed a clash between the police who demanded police bring them a drone and the policemen who arrested the men but they were protesting freely.

The MPs refused to enter the vehicle and sat down on the coal where they netted and shouted at the police.

Some of the MPs were forced to drive to the central police station

National unity platform MPs yesterday slammed speaker of parliament Anita Amongo and handed her a letter containing all the details of the police beatings in their areas.

Last month Police arrested MP Joyce Bagala who was planning to stage a rally to wards celebration of Women’s Day but police fired tear gas at her and the rally was disrupted.

And the insulting MP Suzan Mugabi was beaten by police and taken away.
