Operation Shujaa Update: 31 Abductees Rescued as Joint UPDF/FARDC Operations Intensify

Thirty (30) abductees were yesterday (22 August, 2023) rescued after they reported to the FARDC base in Erengeti. This follows last week’s joint UPDF/FARDC attack in Tingwe hills where 19 abductees were rescued.
The joint Uganda People’s defense forces (UPDF) and The armed forces of the Congoleese Army (FARDC) operation Shujaa against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has intensified leading to successive achievements to the joint forces.
The joint Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces/Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo Operation Shujaa on the 22 August 2023, in the general areas of Maxabo in North Kivu, came in contact with the ADF terrorists and one rocket propelled grenade launcher (RPG) was recoverd and one woman rescued.
On 20th August 2023 at around 1630 hrs in the South West of Kimberembere the joint forces under UPDF’s 11th Bn, operating in the general areas of Maxabo got in contact with the ADF group and one terrorist was put out of action, 01 PKM machine gun and two SMGs were recoverd.
The joint forces are still pursuing the group suspected to be under the command of one of the ADF senior commanders Muhammad Lumisa and Rafiki.
Yesterday a group of 48 former members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) has been granted amnesty, as announced during an event held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.
This decision, made by the Amnesty Commission, involves individuals aged 15 years and older who are now exempt from facing prosecution for any war-related offenses they may have committed.
The Amnesty Commission distributed certificates to these individuals, signifying their cleared status. This action followed statements by Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the army spokesperson, who informed the media that, with the assistance of the Bridgeway Foundation and the Amnesty Commission, successful rehabilitation of these individuals had taken place.
