The number of Mpox patients in Kampala Capital City rises to 89, followed 10 cases discover on Monday. Of these, 69 have recovered and 31 are still receiving treatment in different health Centers.
Kampala Capital City acting Director of Health Dr. Sarah Zalwango said the 10 new cases registered in a single day are spread in Divisions of Makindye, Central and Nakawa.
” Mpox is easy to avoid people adhere to Standing Operating Procedures , avoiding contact wit each other, hand wash frequently and avoiding crowded places just like we did during Covid-19 pandemic , Dr Zalwango cautioned.
She further said that KCCA is ready to hand the situation having learnt a lesson from Covid-19 outbreak and the Authority has already trained it health workers who link up with the village leaders in the community to get those who have acquired the virus.
“The symptoms are fever, headache, skin rush even in the private parts and paralyzing of some parts of the body.” She said.
The first case of Mpox was reported at Bwera Hospital in Kasese District which is bordering Uganda and Easter Dr. Congo on July 24th, 2024.
More case of Mpox were reported in Nakasongola District in August, 2024 but by October 11th the number in the District had risen to 28 accounting for about half of the total number of cases but the rise of the cases in Kampala is alarming as at Monday 28th October, 2024.
