Three Mpox cases have been registered in Masindi and Nakasongola Prisons 2 in the former and one in latter as Nakasongola District register the highest number of the pandemic so far in the country cause huge panic in the country’s prison service centres.
While giving an update on Monday, the Prisons mouth piece Frank Baine informed reporters that the infected inmates are being treated and their conditions are not worrying.
“The patients are recovering slowly, there isn’t any need to worry because the situation is not alarming now and they are being medically administered in the respective District Health Centres where infected persons are handles,’’ Baine stated.
He also that they have set up a central point at Bamunanika Prisons in Luweeo District just in case of surging of the cases so as to properly manage the situation when there’s escalation.
“We learnt a lesson during the eruption Covid-19 and this taught us taught us how to manage the epidemic, now we are working closely with Ministry of Health to eradicate the virus from spreading”. He said.
According to the World Health Organization Report, as of October 10th ,2024 Uganda had registered 91 Mpox cases since first cases were confirmed on 24 July, 2024 following the detection of two case-patients in Kasese District, by the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) through its surveillance system there were no confirmed death.
Nakasongola District alone three days ago one of the leading publications in the country reported that it had registered 28 Mpox cases this rises that total number of case in the whole country to about 120.
According to the health expert Dr. Agaba Byamukama who is also Nakasongola District Health Officer, the disease major spreads through body contact and he cautions people in areas hit by the pandemic to a void body contacts limit going to crowded areas.
